This is the story of a 16-year-old Australian boy who runs away from home to fight on the Western Front in WWI. He soon realizes that a terrible family life is nothing compared to the horrors of war as he confronts the mud, the blood, the death and eventually his own mortality. Based on official and personal diary entries, documented history, letters, and anecdotal information this story combines fact and fiction to give the reader a taste of life on the front line in 1917 and 1918.
