Discovery: Constructing a concept-based story
Author(s): Jan Schill
This book introduces students to the concept of discovery and explores its three dimensions- self - discovery, discovery of place and cultural knowledge. It suggests issues for students to explore in their narratives. Students are instructed in the various stages of writing - selecting and developing a story idea, narrative voice, characterisation, setting and structure. A model story 'Graveyard' is used to illustrate the points made about narrative skills. HSC examination criteria marking is discussed and students are given guidelines for using the criteria as a tool for constructing their narratives.
